Annie Palmer has been our ‘just up the road’ neighbour ever since we moved here in 1991. We were constantly amazed at how she just kept going, year by year – keeping her property immaculate and doing her own firewood each year until well into her 90s. I understand she did her own snow blowing just within the last week or so!!

Annie loved children as well as dogs. At the wake I heard a story of how, long ago, she used to keep change in a bottle and sometimes sprinkle it on the road for the kids who walked along the road to find. :) When I used to walk out past her place with our kids and dog, she'd often come out as we came back up the road - for a bit of a chat, over the fence, or maybe a cup of tea - with candies for the kids and a treat for the dog, with an extra dog treat to take away with me.

Annie was a hard worker. She was not one to mince words, and had good sense of humour. Sadly, many of the stories she told of her life are best forgotten. From what she told me, she had a very hard life as a child and a young person, and the Annie I knew was fiercely independent and had a real struggle with trusting people - with being afraid that if people were nice to her they wanted something out of it - so she always tried to pay people for anything they did for her, but even then she could be so easily hurt by something, and the relationship become strained.

She did love and trust her dogs. She trained them to be fierce, so they could protect her and her fence line, but also to be obedient and calm right down at her word. She always said no one needed to fear her dog unless they meant her harm.

The one person I know of that she did trust was God. She read the Bible, and she talked to Him and depended on Him every day. Though in the last many years He did disappoint her by being so slow to answer her prayer to take her home!

God bless you Annie, and may you rest in peace.

It is with the deepest sadness that I have lost the final connection to our growing up on the farm in Bolingbroke/Althorpe/South Sherbrooke/R.R.# 1 Westport now referred to as Ritchie Side Road and Crozier Road .
THIS REMARKABLE LADY Annie May Palmer born June 3 , 1920 ~ Sunday , January 13, 2019 would have turned 99 THIS JUNE ! When I visited with her last in December she was just beginning to show her age at 98.6 .
Annie and Fred were dear neighbours who trusted only those who proved their worth through honesty and integrity. Annie lived in the same location since the day she married Fred and then had a newer home built near the older one. She and Fred and my parents Mary and Hillis Crozier became stedfast supports for each other until such time as my parents moved to Perth.

Annie truly amazed me in the fact that she was able to live in her own home until she passed away on Sunday.
Annie got her final wish in that she wanted to pass away in her own home and with her dog by her side . Now both are at peace .
GOD SPEED Annie , thank you for letting me come and see you for all these years . I just wished I had been closer. RIP dear lady .
