Obituary for Frank Chaikowsky

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Frank Chaikowsky on Wednesday, November 9th surrounded by family and cared for by the compassionate staff at the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital.
Frank was born and raised in Lachine, Quebec, son of Emile and Harriet Chaikowsky and brother to Mark (Gillian) and Emile Jr. Frank adored his wife of 55 years, Mary, whom he often referred to as "pet" and who lovingly cared for him during multiple heath issues later in life. He will also be missed by his children, Jessica, Larissa and Matthew and nephews Eric, Roman and Andrew.
After studying business at Loyola and then obtaining an MBA from McMaster, Frank and Mary settled in Carleton Place, Nepean and eventually the Westport area.
Frank was a long time employee of BNR/Nortel and spent the majority of his career in various leadership positions and still has many lasting friendships from his time there. He was a legend walking through the halls in his workboots (with a suit) and was the cafeteria ladies' "favourite."
Frank was a passionate traveler, avid reader, and a talented craftsman. He had a wicked sense of humour, teased children incessantly (who loved him) and was often described as having a mischievous twinkle in his eye. He learned the art of maple syrup, and together with his son, Matthew, started Little Rideau Farm in Westport. Father and son were so pleased to have been awarded the World Championship at the Royal Winter Fair in 2012. It was a community effort and he appreciated the connections forged in the bush, the sugar shack and at the various farmers markets in the area.
The thing Frank loved most after his family and dog Oreo, was reading - sometimes consuming multiple books in a week. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Westport Library (a registered charity) via interac transfer (library@rideau.net) or call 613-273-3223 for further details. As per his wishes, there will be a small private celebration of life in the coming weeks.
