Obituary for Norman Lapointe

Norman was born in Ottawa to Frank and Luella (McKinnon) Lapointe. He is predeceased by his parents and only sibling, Laura Lapointe, but is survived by many cousins and friends, as well as his beloved poodle, Missy, one of many poodles over the years.
Norman’s career was with the Federal Government in Accounting, transferring to CSIS towards the end of his career. After moving permanently to Westport, he qualified as a Real Estate Agent. In his early 20s, he bought a cottage on McNally’s Lane on the Upper Rideau, and his love of Westport began. Following retirement, he purchased a home on Noonan Road to share with his parents.
A quiet, private person, Norman was a dedicated volunteer:
Treasurer of the Westport United Church.
On the Board of Executives of the Westport Food Bank, and according to Cait Maloney, was “The Face of the Food Bank.”
Norman was a faithful and long-time member of Simpson Masonic Lodge in Newboro. In 2017, he was awarded the William Mercer Wilson Medal by the Grand Lodge of Ontario. This award is given to those who seek no reward or publicity for their Masonic work and commitment to the wider community. It is in recognition of outstanding service, demonstrates continuous brotherly love while always maintaining a modest and humble outlook on life. There was no more deserving individual than Norman Lapointe.
Norman’s Eight remaining first cousins thank the nurses and doctors at Kingston General Hospital ICU for their care and dedication and for keeping family and friends notified. Special thanks to friends David and Marilyn Moore, who saw to Norman’s every need during his sickness; Rev. Bennett of Westport United Church for his prayers and for keeping the congregation informed. Also thanks to Duane Thomas for taking care of Missy for some weeks and now offering her a wonderful, permanent home.
For those wishing to donate in memory of Norman, please consider the Food Bank, Westport United Church and The Canadian Cancer Society.
Arrangements are entrusted to Lyons Funeral Home in Westport. Burial will be in the United Church Cemetery in Westport.
