Dear Mary,
Please accept our deepest sympathies at having recently heard of Rick's passing. While we knew Rick had been in failing health for some years, whenever we had a chance to chat with him he always seemed so inwardly full of life. He was also still sharp as a tack and always up to date on local and world events and still seemed to have that great sense of humour when we last saw him a couple of months ago. While he left us much too soon, what an amazingly full and exciting life he seems to have had! We still remember Rick jokingly recounting his exciting work with Calgary's Ralph Klein and seem to recall that also included joining "King Ralph" in Sarajevo for the 1984 Winter Olympics and both of you at the Calgary Stampede.
While we knew a bit about his early journalism background in Ottawa, we will probably always remember Rick as a real'nautical man' given the marina experience and beautiful boating magazine work you both produced ... but mostly because of the joy he seem to have just looking out on the water at the boats! One of the pictures in your beautiful YouTube posting has a pensive Rick seeming to be looking out on the coast. Rick was a beautiful and caring man who now has the 'best room in the house' up there to look down at all the boats down here and you and the family and make sure you are all safe.
Thank you Mary for the wonderful loving care you gave Rick day and night for years - particularly over his later more difficult years where he relied entirely on you. Please get some rest now since nothing can hurt Rick now and we're sure he's happy. God bless you and the family. Yvonne & Peter
