George O'Rourke
In the name of all the O'Rourke clan from Dorval (now Algeria and France) I would like to express our sadness that Pan Olszewski has departed this world. It seems that my memories of him reach back almost to my earliest years. Of course he was the father of my great friend Michal with whom we skipped school and had the gall to entice other pupils do join us during the "récréation" - we got caught and had a corrective interview with Pan Olszewski. But as a true Pole he could not really punish someone for standing up to authority so we got off lightly. Then there were the dancing lessons in Dollars-des-Ormaux. We alway thought that it should have been Panstwo Olszewsci that should have been dancing and us children having drinks and talking but it wasn't to be. Round and round we went under the stern eye of Pan Olszewski who would occasionally pop-in to ensure the kujawiak was given propoer reverence. Time went by and when my own father passed away I know that my mother greatly appreciated the warmth and support she always received form the Olszewskis. Although life had dispersed us the friendhip between our families has endure and it is with a profound feeling of sadness mixed in with pride that I can say "miałem wielki honor poznać tego człowieka". May God bless "Pana Olszewskiego" and all his family.
