A cold Friday night in Sudbury, winter 1969. Our Friday night ritual after a long work week: pulling out the sofabed in our little apartment to watch Friday night movies. Boots is working afternoon shifts this week at the Levack Mine where we both worked and will be back in Sudbury after midnight. We leave the door unlocked.Around 1 am Judy and I wake up to the aroma of an Xlarge Cortina's all-dressed pizza. And there is Boots, sitting in the armchair with a slice of pizza in one hand and a beer in the other."Want a beer, Bob?", .For the next few hours we eat pizza, drink beer and discuss the events of the past week and the latest news from Westport. Around 3am Boots calls a cab and promises to meet up with us sometime on Saturday.

I also think of the year in Brockville when Boots and I shared an apartment with Tommy Ryan and "Churn" Murphy.
